From the first standardized test to the last college essay

Our goal is to be a “one-stop shop” for college-bound students, providing support for standardized testing, academic tutoring, resume strengthening, athletic recruitment, and college list building before application and essay guidance even begins. Remember, it's never too early to start preparing – the best way to tackle the college application process is to start early and stay organized!
“The last time I looked at a college application, it was decades ago. Apparently things have changed a little. In the beginning, I tried to help my son with the application process. He told me in no uncertain terms that I was ‘not qualified.’ Really made me angry, and we had it out.

“I hired Great Expectations just to get him going, but my ‘expectation’ was that we wouldn't really need them. Very long story short, I couldn't have been more wrong, and my son was right. (For god's sake, don't tell him I said that.) I could never have helped my child the way they did. They are lovely, smart, energetic, well-informed people who understand subtleties of this process that never would have occurred to me.

“Shall I tell you the end of the story? He got into his first choice... a university that his dean told him he shouldn't even try for. Do yourself a favor and hire these people.” - Joyce O. (Santa Monica, CA)

It’s never too early to start preparing

The best way to tackle the college application process is to start soon and stay organized!
College Counseling
Our college counselors and athletic recruitment counselors are the most experienced and engaging out there. Many of our college counselors have worked in college admissions offices and/or have graduate degrees in education or school counseling, whereas our athletic recruitment counselors were not only college athletes themselves, but also have served as college coaches and/or have overseen the recruitment process for athletic clubs or Varsity school teams. We have hired a variety of experts in niche aspects of the process (art portfolios, transfers, graduate schools, etc.) to provide students with an even more diverse, relevant range of services in their quest to gain admittance to their dream schools.
Tutoring
While there are many larger tutoring companies out there, our size allows us to offer a far more personalized experience while still utilizing a core curriculum of effective strategies. We hire tutors with extensive experience, particularly in test preparation, and encourage them to think outside the box when basic strategies are not working with a particular student. Tailoring our approach to each student’s unique means of problem-solving led to score improvements significantly higher than that of competitors. If a tutor still feels like a student isn’t grasping a concept that’s been explained multiple ways, the tutor is able and encouraged to turn to our other tutors — or even the company founder — for advice on alternate approaches. This type of support network is rare, if not non-existent, at larger companies, where inexperienced tutors often have no resources beyond pre-printed company textbooks.

“Before my son started working with Great Expectations, he had scored a 24 on his ACT. By the time he applied to college, with the help of his GE tutors, his score rose to a 35, with a super score of 36!

"He worked one-on-one with Jen who helped guide him through the actual application process. I am 100% confident that without the combined efforts of both my son’s dedication and the exceptional team at Great Expectations, he would not be off to an Ivy League institution in the fall.” - Tory H. (Los Angeles, CA)
