Academic Tutoring

Did You Know?
In AP United States History, 26% of the 467,975 students who took the test in 2023 earned a 4 or a 5. In 2024, that share soared to 36%.
The average incoming Harvard student has taken eight AP classes.
47% of American high-schoolers graduate with A averages.
Over the last 10 years, the number of public high school graduates nationally who have taken an AP Exam increased from 31% to 35%.
In an Information Session at any top tier university, you will invariably hear a visiting high schooler ask, “Is it better to get a B in an AP class or an A in a regular class?” Almost without fail, the Admissions representative will respond, “It’s better to get an A in an AP class."

While standardized tests, extracurricular activities, and admissions essays are influential factors, more than 50% of a college’s decision still comes down to a student’s transcript. Admissions officers not only look at GPAs, but also at the rigor of coursework — did the student challenge themselves at every turn? Honors and AP classes demonstrate to colleges that students are eager to challenge themselves and are not afraid of college-level material or workloads.

Whether students are looking to strengthen fundamental skills (math, reading comprehension, grammar/writing, etc.), supplement their education with an in-depth exploration of subjects not offered at school (creative writing, marine science, etc.), or improve in a class that they are struggling in, we are here to help. Our tutors will explain subjects in a variety of ways, taking careful note of what learning methods work with a particular student and which don’t; for instance, some students love using mnemonic devices to remember terms or ideas, whereas others need visual images.

Don’t wait to address a problem until the student has dug a hole so deep that it’s difficult to get out of. Solidify the foundation for your student’s academic high school career today!
How many hours do I need?
As with everything, it depends on your goals. Are you looking to secure a certain grade in the class or a certain score on an AP exam? What is getting in your way of your desired score – is your teacher not teaching the necessary material and you need help filling in the gaps, are you struggling to keep up with the assignments, is the coursework itself incredibly challenging, or do you primarily need help preparing for the most strategic ways to tackle AP exams? While most students meet regularly (often weekly) throughout the school year to address concerns as they arise, others seek help only in the weeks leading up to major assignments of the AP exams themselves. Consistent preparation and review almost always trumps cramming, but we work with each student to determine where they need support and how best to ensure their success.
