Matthew is a dedicated college counselor and educator with a decade of experience guiding students through the admissions process. He is known for helping students transform their authentic interests into compelling passion projects and application narratives that highlight both academic strengths and personal growth. With a structured and strategic approach, Matthew works holistically to understand each student’s goals, values, and learning style, ensuring that their applications reflect not only achievements but also genuine character and purpose.
As a student, Matthew earned multiple full scholarships before choosing to study Mechanical Engineering at Clemson University as a member of the National Scholars Program. He worked as a mechanical engineer for several years, then earned his M.S. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia. Matthew then built a career in STEM education, teaching engineering courses both as a high school teacher and an adjunct professor. He designed hands-on, inquiry-based courses and mentored one of the largest STEM clubs in Virginia. Many of his students developed award-winning projects, helping them stand out during the college admissions process.
Matthew brings this blend of teaching and counseling experience to his admissions work. He helps students break down the complex application process into manageable steps, turning what often feels overwhelming into a process of discovery and growth. Whether a student is exploring potential majors, seeking to highlight their extracurricular activities, or struggling to find their voice in essays, Matthew provides clear guidance and steady support. Students consistently note his personal connection and positivity; one shared that he “forms real connections with students that allow them to feel comfortable asking questions, getting advice, and making mistakes.”
Matthew values authenticity and balance. His goal is not only to help students gain admission to selective colleges and universities, but also to ensure that the journey is meaningful, confidence-building, and ultimately leads to the right fit. Families and students appreciate his thoughtful, individualized approach, which fosters both strong outcomes and a holistic, intentional application experience.
