When most students think about applying to college, they picture essays, letters of recommendation, testing, and activities lists. But there’s another piece of the process that often slips under the radar: the simple email. Whether you’re reaching out to an admissions officer, following up with a teacher, or connecting with a professor at a school of your interest, the way you write an email can make a strong impression. 

When most students start building a college list, they often focus on prestige, rankings, available majors, and location, location, location. While these factors are, of course, important, they only scratch the surface of what truly makes a college the right fit. In fact, some of the most important factors are often overlooked, and yet they can make or break your college experience.

It is impossible to deny the growing (and merited) stigma against Greek life that has spread over the past decade. From wild parties to hazing, many chapters have cast a dark shadow over Greek life as a whole. For incoming freshmen, this begs the question: is Greek life still worth it?
